I picked up this one plant a while ago and have been wondering what it was. I haven't found anything helpful on the Internet, so here's a description:

-light, mint green colored leaves that are sickle shaped (4in max length)
-leaves that grow from nodes
-majority of the leaves browned and died a week after planting
-new leaves still had the mint color and interesting pattern *see below*
-planted clippings grow roots from nodes
-non-buried nodes produced roots that reached the substrate
-stem was brown/red
-the plant grew out of the water

The interesting feature about the plant is that there are white edges on the short curved side of each leaf. The white only appears on one side of each leaf. Also, the leaves only curve in the clockwise direction. When the plant grew out of the water, the short curved side was still a different color that the rest of the leaf but, instead of being white, it was darker green.

Are there any ideas on what kind of plant this is?

could be some corymbosa but I'm not 100% sure

Like many of the plants in the tank, it does not look aquatic by nature. The plant in question has some similarities to aquatic plants, but does not look like anything I have ever seen in the hobby, that is truly aquatic. Several of the plants in the picture look like terrestrial plants, and will likely lose their foliage in the coming weeks.

It's an awesome plant, how long have you had it?

I had the plant for about eight months before it was eaten. Most of the stems and leaves died, but there was one clipping that was growing nicely. It was about 8in tall and has three leaves on it. I buried another leaf and it grew roots. Unfortunately, when I was away on a trip, my friend got the idea to add a bunch of feeder fish because the tank looked "empty". The fish got hungry, and I've been looking for another plant at petsmart ever since. (not the best store, but the guy gives me any plant for $2.50)

The pic is eight months old and some of the plants did die. The aluminum plant was a terrestrial. I have no clue what the purple plant was. The anacharis clippings were eaten. The rotala macranda withered away. However, most of the plants are still alive. The anubias, the java fern, the sword looking plant, and the hygro in the right corner are still alive but not as healthy as they used to be.

I got my plant labeled as a corymbosa from a place in Chinatown. Cultivar in the making? Doubt it, but hopefully that one leaf will grow into a full plant.
