So on my search for a piranha to buy, I came across a reputable seller in my state who is selling what he calls 'mystery Serrasalmus piranhas'. He said he can't ID them yet but he can guarantee they are NOT elongatus or black rhoms. Price is $50. Any advice from MFKers?

LOL I thought serras were only rhoms and elongs

Macki, spilos, compressus, eigimanni....

Serrasalmus is just a gene pool, same fish but varies depending on location and country. They don't look like red bellies at all. Some are black, white, blue, yellow etc. If its over 4-5" its a good deal imo.

It's not too bad a price for any size serra. Time you figure what venders would charge, plus shipping & handling,50$ is cheap. Plus you get to see them 1st hand before buying. Not to mention not having to worry bout surviving shipping. Macki. Lmao. Dozens of serras, they are not the same fish but many fish in the serra group.

what size is the fish and do you have any pictures?
