ipicked this one up for $5 toda any ideas on what it might be

:iagree: my first looks were its definatley a parachromis, and the only parachromis to get the red line along the dorsal is the cubans cichlid (nandopsis tetracanthus) although when my dad had his they were much darker although he got his at 3-4" i dont know how big yours are.
 
hard to tell i would say cubans cichlid
 
My impression is that it's a grammodes. Anyone else think so?

Nandopsis tetracanthus is not in the genus Parachromis... It looks alot like grammodes, but the spots are throwing me off. Adults do have some speckling though, so I'd guess grammodes.

It's a N. tetracanthus. Look at the big black spot on the fish. BTW, people, Cubans aren't Parachromis.

EDIT: Just saw your post cookiemonster. Great minds think alike? LOL.
