I have a very large and beautiful male Dovii that was suffering from a cloudy pupil but has now progressed to having other problems.
I checked all the water parameters which were fine as the tank has been running for 5+yrs but started increasing water changes 10-20% every few days to cure the eye. I tried melafix and pimafix for a few weeks with no results. I have continued water changesthough.

Unfortunately though he has gone backwards and now just lies on his side but rights himself when I approach the tank. He shares the tank with his girfriend who is unaffected and in good health. I put up their divider to give him his own space to chill and recover.

He can swim but seems a little disorientated. Initially I thought he had a digestive problem (Blockage) which put him off his food but know I think it may be swim bladder or some other internal issue.

The eye has not cleared up either but his condition, colour and posture tell me he's not well.
I fed him a frozen glass eye which he rose to take egarly several times and the fish was gone in the morning but he is again on his side.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem??

I will but I am and Uni and should be teaching in 5 mins!!!

Its most probably Poppy eye !!
Quarantine ur fish immediately if possible increase the amount of food but DO NOT OVER FEED!!
Do frequent water changes and double check any new item u recently introduced!!
U may use Maracyn or
Epsom salts the latter proved to be efficient in certain cases!!(Epsom salt-magnesium chloride)
Good luck!!!!

I have seen pop-eye before and I don't believe this is it. The eye is cloudy (inside pupil) the outside is in normal size and with a clear surface with no abrasions.

Temp and aeration was increased straight away together with water changes(weeks ago) but believe I now believe it maybe a gram positive bacterial infection that is affecting his eye and swim bladder.
Is salt an effective cure??

hmm i request u to look at ur aquarium for antibacterial solutions i dnt know which name as i am not from the region!!!
Untill u get dat u can use salt!!

Popeye? Does the eye actually protrude out of its socket? Any pics? Cloudy eyes if it was caused by injuries or poor water conditions can simply be corrected with clean water alone. Melafix and Pimafix are absolutely pointless here.

What do you feed him? Water parameters? Tank size? Pics of the abdomen?
