just got my hands on 8 n. brichardi. all between a 1" and a 1 1/2". 5 have stream like fins that resemble a male firemouth. would that make them male?... when they pair and breed will they exclude the rest of the school or will they stay together?... also, if i were to get 8 more with a total of 16 in a 60 gal, would that be okay?... all the info i can get from the experienced would help! thanks!

Brichardis live in large harems in the wild. There is no reason that your 8 would not do fine in a 60. If you include plenty of rockwork, 16 might work out okay, but expect a few losses as they generate their hierarchy. There is always a possibility that one or more of the group will get singled out and killed by the others.

However, once they have settled in and developed a hierarchy, it won't be long before they start breeding and your 8 will quickly turn into dozens and you will have to start culling and selling the babies.

I kept 10 brichardis in a 60 with rock piles in both corners seperated by an open sand patch and they split into seperate harems without any issues.
