Nailed by a ray?

Anyone been stung by their ray? I haven't had the pleasure, but I had one take a swing at me recently & it got me wondering how bad it is?

I know my aunt got stung at seal beach and was left with a 1" hole right above her ankle.

I haven't been hit yet but the person I bought one of my rays from had to go to the ER to have a small fragment of the stinger removed. Let me tell you that was one big stinger!

One of our members Josh got hit by one and it was bad he has the nasty scars to prove it but you won't see him around anymore he was a bit wild and angry so he's no longer allowed here i kinda miss his humor sometimes but back to the subject... It will kill the tissues I try to explain it like a rattlesnake bite tissue pretty much rot away... I have a first aid sheet above the stingray tank that is to be taken to the hospital when someone gets hit it also tells what to do right after it happens before you gt to the hospital mostly run the hottest water you can possibly stand over the wound to break down the venom...

I see people get stung all the time at the beach, my water polo coach is a head lifeguard for the state an had the craziest stories of people getting stung. One lady got stung in between her toes an it split her foot open to the bone.

I stepped on a ray and was stung in the achilles tendon by it when I was a kid. 20 years later, I was stung in the palm of my hand when I tried getting my hook out of its mouth. A friend was holding the tail/stinger wrapped in a towel but, it wiggled free and nailed me. Both were extremely painful.

Dear god the tendon!!! Did you loose any function in your calf/foot?
