It's trying to breed with my female Carpinits and is doing the dance at the pics above. It's 5" right now.

Holy crap!

Did you check you water params yet? I know thats kindof a newbie question so no offence but its the first thing to come to mind.

Very strange that it looks like that while trying to breed...seems like it would be most colorful while making breeding attempts

Good Luck!

sorry to tell you this but its going to die(want some popcorn?)

my dads salvini looses its colour but never this badly... normally stressed out when lack of colour. if it dies im sorry for your loss..

Water param is fine and it's in a community tank with other cichlids that are doing well. He's actually defending a territory at the right side of the tank.

For a fish that's dying, it sure eats a lot :D

Best of luck with the sal always a good sign when there eating and if its still defending its territory sounds fine to me. Could be that its just not happy at the moment have you changed anything in the tank lately new fish/moved rockwork?

It started fading when I introduced the female carpintis a few weeks ago. That was basically the only change that happened.

sounds like its healthy if its eating and defending territory. But I've kept them before and never had a male turn this pale.

maybe she broke his heart :grinno:

Hope he comes back to normal for you!

My salvini swims around the tank changing colors from a vibrant yellow to a greyish black yellow, but it never gets this pale.

I don't know what to tell you. Its cool you documented this though with pics and all so we can maybe learn from it.

Keep a close eye on it tell us what happens.
