Swimmin' with the fishes
Moved him from the 300 tank (8x2.5) to the 300 pond (8x3). Not much different, but the filtration is higher, and he's got the extra 6". He's about 24", couldn't get an exact measurement.

For those that are going to ask, this is going to be his winter home. During the spring/summer/fall he'll be out in the 4600g koi pond. We're in the SW so winter is only like 3 months.

Nice. Are you not afraid for your superb koi collection?

They're all 24"+. I don't anticipate him going after them. The goldfish will be swapped with him though. They'd be a nice quick snack for sure.

He's going to get so big so quickly in your outdoor pond, that's awesome!

Yeah I can't wait for the summer! He's small for his age because we limited his feeding when he was young to slow growth until we had a proper setup. Not the ideal method of owning an RTC but he's shown no I'll effects and is honestly one of the healthiest I've seen.

i've seen a 4'+ RTC kept with 30" koi with no problem. It was at a breeding farm in FL. No idea where the picture went and can't find it again. Not saying mine will be tame, but I'm hoping with it being well fed it shouldn't be an issue. Mine has never been fed live food, but does LOVE smelt, so I don't know how that'll play out.

Although....it did take down a 10" pleco when it was 18" because I missed a feeding by a day or two..... Maybe I'll build it it's own pond on the other side of the yard....
