Trout Island
So I have this clown loach and never fed anything but bloodworms. So recently I had a surplus of mealworms and decided to throw a few in. Then I start hearing this tapping sound when it eats it. What the hell is it? I know I dont know as much as you guys but humor me. Thanks...

is he coming to the top to get the worms?

my clown loaches make the same clicking noise when eating wafers, i have no idea how or why, but it is normal with harder foods. i think they are trying to break it apart.

my clowns do it all the time. sounds like someone tapping on the glass. it's natural.

Chewing/grinding thier food most likely. Water carries the sound alot better than the air and that is probably why you hear it. Meal worms have a hard shell.

I will say , Normal . My piranha , When they chew up a feeder , I can here their teeth
sizer together . ITS NUTS , We can " Here are fish eat " - We must have brain damage- .

my friend has a betta for two years and when you feed him pellets, and put your ear close to the tank, you hear a crunching/cracking sound :grinno:

I just think its odd that I have an ATF that doesnt even make that sound. And mealworms arent that hard...maybe its their jaw? I'm fascinated!

Mealworms have a hard shell. Maybe not hard to you but hard for fish;)

I often feed freeze-dried shrimp and those are harder. Also...other fish eat the mealworms too...but they dont make the sound.
