Hello! First post here, and I’m looking for some help!

I bought what I thought was a Red Texas Cichlids from a LFS.

But it is starting to look a heck of a lot like my Jack Dempsey’s but with red on it?

Can anyone help me confirm what type of fish this is?

Thanks for confirming. I’ve just never seen one with so much red. I’ll probably have to get another tank or donate her before they start to breed.

It’s shame as she’s such a beautiful fish!

Different catch location points produce many different color variations, some may only be a few hundred yards apart. The video above was from a Cenote, only a few hundred yards from the video below.

Interesting. Can you guys help me sex these two?

The regular jack is the first fish I got for the tank. He/she pretty much runs the tank, aside from my two oscars. He/she used to be aggressive towards them, but they got too big.

The other one I bought as an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, but I’m unsure of sex as well. They just look so different on the dorsal fins.

Normal Jack is a female, can tell by blue on gill plates.
