Nandopsis Bartoni

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it is Herichthys bartoni.

around 8 inches max size, so it needs around 55 gallons, although a bit smaller would work.

try searching herichthys bartoni instead of nandopsis; you should get more results that way.

Very cool fish, I have a group of 4 with 1 male, which I had to remove because they kept breeding and bullied the others. Currently the male and the largest female are almost 4" and growing, I believe they can get up to 6+". I have the 3 females with a group of 5 yellow labridens in a 55 gallon, but they are starting to outgrow the tank. I'm planing on puting the bartonis and the labridens in a 125 some time in the next couple months and I believe they will be fine for quite a while. Hope this helps.

Get about 7 inches, 40 gallon minimum(for male), possibly 30 gallon, females could go in a smaller tank. Change color during spawning. Omnivorous. VERY aggressive to it's own species, and pretty aggressive to other species.

Don conkels the only one i know who has them.

I have a pair from there which are prespawns as i type. beautiful breeding dress, these are quite well mannered and not aggressive. my pair are 3.5" ish and fine in a grow out tank with severums, tho.mixteco blue, tho.maculipinnis and sajicas.

Juvies and fry are prone to bloat, i keep mine with alot of oxygen and flow. also of course good quality water as i dout these are forgiving fish.....
i say a 40 gallon would be a minimum but bigger is always better. mine are eventually going in a community tank with sajica and thorichthys and will be a 120 gallon.

is the half black/half white coloring the breeding colors only, or are they always like that? Beautiful fish!

When not pre spawning or spawning they get a blue/teal like body with black dots going down the lateral line. They change quick and are easy to breed so you mostly see them in their spawning dress.
