I just ordered 15 small nandopsis beani from COTA.. Just a few questions regarding growing them out.. Fish are around 0.5". I have two options to grow them out in.. First tank is a 55g which is in my dining room. This is a high traffic area in my house. Other option is a 40g which is in the fish room where only i go to feed and observe the fish. Which would be more advisable to grow them out in? I understand these fish are super susceptible to bloating due to stress. Would the steady action around the dining room tank stress the fish out considerably?
Also, for those of you that have successfully raised these fish from small - what temps did you run them at?
Thanks! I will post pics as soon as the fish arrive early next week!

Congrats man your on a roll with getting some cool fish. Have a buddy who has a beani...fish is gorgeous. From what i remember he keeps it on the cooler side maybe low 70's and does tons of wc's. Like every couple of days.

Good luck looking forward to seeing pics

I raised a group of 12 in a 150 gal, kept temps between 68-72'F. In summer when temps rose, and they hit 3" they started to kill each other.
But the first ones I had were received as adults, and seemed to me, to be susceptible to duck lips at warmer temps (the reason I kept the 2nd younger group cooler), but may have been exposed before I got them.
One adult died soon after I got it, and didn't look right from the get go
Mine never had a problem with bloat.
The largest pair spawned when temps were 68'F

Imo I say go with the high traffic tank, but give them cover to hide. I had a group of 4 that I grew out from that size in a low traffic area and I decided to just keep one and get rid of the other 3 once they got 4-5in.....Well that was a few months ago and the one I kept is the most skittish fish I've ever owned. He's about 6 inches and hides whenever anyone's in the room with him. I try to keep my temps around the low 70's, good luck.

Keep stress low. Pack the tank with everything you got and don't mess with the tank.

Isde lol that really sucks! I know how frustrating it is to hang on to a skittish fish and its my number one fish peve! But You never know maybe in a couple inches he will transform!

I did a water change yesterday and pulled all of the cover and decorations out and so far it's working in my favor. He's been less skittish and swimming around exploring.
