I think anything you add to the bottom will just add it's own waste and bioload to your tank. No fish eats waste if that's what you're looking for. You could try a Raphael cat. They only come out at night and scavenge the bottom of the tank for leftover food and stuff. Other than that, you rarely ever see them.

I have that same hose! He is currently in all my tanks.
