has or does anyone keep these fish? i am thinking of getting one everything i can find says that they are fairly straight forward to care for. iwould house it in a 125 wide with my lima shovlenose cat and maybe one other large fish. maybe a compressiceps. any ideas, input, bashing, etc?:naughty:

uhm while the comps would be an african, Mangunese is a centreal american cichlid =) so I can help you out some by putting it in the correct section, seeing as your question seems to be more about it! As for the comps its a cool little fish - might want to check up on the water param differences not sure but depending the the type of comp you want, it might not hold up well in the water params of your other fish.

Honestly you will probably be lucky to house anything w/ the jaguar cichlid. Once they reach a good aize they become very aggressive towards tankmates. Come to think about it, everyone I know that has Jags Keep them alone because of their aggressive nature. it's hard to get a mating pair because the male will tend to kill the female. I would not even think about putting any Comps in the tanks. Malawi or Tangs. They won't get big enough to hold their own against a Jag. Just my opinion.

well not to be an prick but its parachromis managuense...and he would destroy the comp..and the cat may get beat up as well most definetely..i would put in like a gt orjust get a pair of jags..or if you want a fish that is a little smaller but just as nice as jags...you could go with a pair of salvinis, or parachromis motaguensis.

The pics that i am showing they are not mine but are jeff rapps...Just so people dont think im stealing them...And you can order all these fish from him

The first one is a grammode a little smaller then a jag but still aggro, and the second is the motaguensis, and the third is the salvini..

Mine does well with a convict but if you go this way be sure to give the convict several Jag proof hideouts for the odd tantrum that the Jag WILL occasionaly throw.

Dovii is right, it is Parachromis Managuense, Nandopsis Managuense is an outdated name for the same fish. Look them up on the net there is tons of info out there.

As for does anyone on here keep them... Well, I think everyone on here has either kept one or seriously comtemplated keeping one, they are pretty cool. Mine takes food right from my hands (large food held barely by my fingertips that is, they have some wicked canine teeth).

well i already got the lima and plan on keeping it so out with the jag.:( the comps are neat but dont appear to get as big and seem more drab just from what i've seen( feel free to prove me wrong) but idont want to get fish i dont want down the road. i really want a tank with two or three bigger fish so any sugetions are ok. :headbang2

i gave you some suggestions...do some motas they are really nice same with the calobrensis...grammodes..salvini get fairly big...or some devils..

You made the right decision because the jag probably would have killed the lima as lima shovel nose are quite delicate. that if the lima hadnt swallow the jag when it was small of course.

yes they are agro like jag but dont get as big...so you can have more of a community tank of aggros..
