Hi i was wondering if Nandopsis tetracanthus can hybrid with other central american cichlids. I belive its common name is Chunky Cuban cichlid and is from cuba that is why i ask.

Here is a pic

most people just call them cubans i'm not sure what they can hybridize with check the hybrid forum right under the snakehead section

Why do you want to hybridize it? Just breed a cuban with a cuban. It's much more attractive, and you can actually sell the fry.

I wanted to see if i can hybrid them with flowerhorns imagine an intense red and white flowerhorn id say it would be awsome.

That would be pretty nice. :) This belongs in the hybrid section though...

Honestly I don't think a cuban could hybridize with a flowerhorn, as flowerhorns seem to be mostly Amphilophus based, while the cuban cichlid is in Nandopsis. Also, since the cichlids in the genus Nandopsis are so isolated from Central America, I doubt there is still gene flow between Nandopsis and other cichlid genus's.

My cuban is a 3" terrorist!!!! King of my five foot tank. I think it would hybridise with whatever it wanted to hybridise with...... cos no one would argue.....!!
