For my dorm this year i am downsizing and want to branch out of freshwater. I want to setup something under 10g (no more walking down the hallway to the bathroom with buckets, haha). No plans for a nano reef yet, not ready for that. But i do have some experience working at a fish shop with FO systems.

Just looking for ideas...a standard 5g tank would be ideal. But what to put in it?

Thanks!

a single clown, trimma, prawn or neon goby

I agree, a single clown as long as its not a maroon and a goby

i meant clown ..goby.
seein as the other 3 fish in that list were gobies as well :D

:iagree:
in such a small tank this is the coolest scope you could make easily. the interaction between fish and crustacean is very interesting.

I actually was considering a clown goby, glad to see it suggested. Thanks for the input!

You should consider adding corals after adding you have run it for a while it is much much more fun IMO. I would at least add some type of plant to help with the water quality. Maybe even some tube worms and some mushroom corals if you have some lighting over it or if you set it by a window lol. I'm thinking about doing the same thing next year when I head off to college.

I want to keep it simple to start, and i know the deal with small systems being more difficult. I'll definetly pick up a decent light to widen my options as things progress...the only thing in the way is the fact that there is a thanksgiving break and the tank will need to be moved for winter break.
I'm gonna take it step by step...emphasis on keeping it simple as i have had a 20g sitting on my desk for the past few years and its nice to have but living in a dorm is limiting and the constant moving sucks.

again thanks for the input
