I am setting up a 20 long macro algea predator tabk in this coming year and was curious on stocking. I have access to an aquarium lab to hold shrimp and damsel/chromis to feed. The fish I was thinking about are 2 sailfin scorpion fish (Amblyapistus taenionotus) and a fuzzy dwarf lion fish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)

As long as you keep up water changes very well shouldn't be much problem, just don't add any more after.
Okay, will do. Do they get along with snails and hermit crabs? I’ve heard no shrimp or other crabs
Probably not a good idea esp in a smaller tank, not to mention some crabs destroy macro
I would go with the mushrooms, simply because in a tank that size the fish are gonna be kind of squashing things, and mushrooms are rather quick spreaders
Okay, thanks! Overfilter the tank too? Then I was thinking of adding a wave maker as well.
Standard filter plus a air stick (airstone, but longer) is fine, just do daily water changes
