So i was thinking about getting a nano tank, or maybe even like a 25g reef. It would be my first saltwater tank ever, I heard the key things were usually to keep double the filtration for the size of the tank, so if i had like a 10g tank, have something for 20+ gallon filtration. Also the lights for the reef are key. Do they have to stay on all day and night? I just want to hear what some of you guys have done with nano reefs and get some tips, and what not to do's.

well i just started mine

you dont realy need alot off filtration your live rock does it for you
you could do a sump if you realy wanted and have some cheato and lr and
some cuc ( clean up crew) but if you went with a smaller tank you could
convert a ac110 to a sump/fuge refugeium whatever you want to call it for your extra filtration

as far as lighting goes its not so much watts per gallon its more the intensity off the light. the reason why watts per gal is so in accurate is because if you had a 250watt
metal hailide bulb and a 2500000 gall tank it works out to be like 0.0000025 or something like that
but iff your corals are close to the light then you dont need to worry to much about the lighting but for your tank i would go 48watts + so you could grow pretty much all you waNT

as far as fish with a 25gal lots more is reveled to you. you can go with these
hawkfish
mantis shrimp
some wrasses
maybe a dwarf lion
frogfish
a school of firefish (not realy they might have agression to one another)
a couple of clowns
a school of barracuda
green chromis

i did clowns and a small psuedochromis and two blue damsels
