I have this old 2.5 gallon laying around that i want to do something with

i was wondering the types of fish i could keep in there, I used to have guppies..

Would rams work? or do they eventually get too big?

Nah, rams, blue or Bolivian, will out grow it pretty quick and invariably get bored in such small confines. You'd want 10gal or preferably more for rams.
A betta, or one or two honey dwarf gouramis, or half a dozen neon tetras maybe, maybe with some cherry shrimp. Not good for permanently housing anything much bigger than that I don't think.

I used to have a 5 gallon with some Endler's livebearers in it. It was fun and it was something a little different.
