So I picked up a 3inch senegal at my LFS a couple of weeks ago. I qt'd him in a ten gallon until last night. Then he went into my 55gallon last night. Today I found the mangled carcasses of the following: 1 otto (not surprised) 3 adult Rainbow threadfins, 2 adult Red eye tetras and an adult german ram that pushes my 4" severums around! Left in my tank is 1 oto, 3 red eye tetras and 3x4" severums. Should I be worried about my sevs? (I dont care about the tetras) I care a lot more about my Severums than this murderer! What do you guys think I should do?

not put a predator in with feeders....

The funny part I forgot to add was that I put him in my guppy breeder tank to QT him. (puffer is getting weaned off feeders) And when I pulled him out there was still 1 or 2 guppies in there. I guess hes more of a killer than an eater.

Also keep in mind the ram (the only loss I care about) was almost his size, and the absolute meanest cichlid I've kept in my 10+ years of fish keeping......

So who thinks the bichir should be puffer food?

I think you should have done your research and not gotten a Bichir at all. Culling your Bichir because it's mean is irreasponsible...Sell it or keep it for the next 20 years

I did my research. The puffer food comment was a joke. :chillpill:

The real question is: will he be alright with my severums? I have plenty of room for him in other tanks, but I'm kind of limited to the number of tanks I have. Though if need be I'd set up a tank for him. I thought I'd have a little more time before a 3inch senegal (think of how small that mouth is) would kill most of my fish.

I think you should take the bichir back to the LFS and tell them that a bichir does not belong in any of your aquariums.

Plus, keeping him in your feeder tank did not help keep him docile. Keeping him surrounded by feeders then putting him in a tank with smaller fishes was a recipe for disaster.

You may have a point there.
I won't return him to the LFS. If he can't stay in with my severums, I'll eat food standing up or something to get in the room for another tank. I just need to know if he should go in a seperate tank.

He should be just fine with the severums. Mine is.

As for your smaller fish...they're gonna be toast.

I know that now:eek:

The tetras and ottos have been moved. What would you suggest to go in with 3 severums and the senegal? Keep them the way it is or add something else.
