I just watched this on demand special on Monster Fish. Its about Mekong Catfish and Arapaima Gigas. Its cool but im surprised at how much information is wrong in it. I though NatGeo would be better at that.

Anyone else seen it?

Just some of the things they said you could tell they made more dramatic

like how red bellies were by far the most aggressive species of piranha and just other little things like that. They also kind of dramatized the general nature of piranha as so many things in the media do.

But not that the over all message of the program was wrong. Most of the information on loss of habitat and endangerment of certain species seemed right. Sorry for the confusion

What I hate about most of these shows is like you say they tend to dramatize everything and sensationalize fish or places in a cheap way to attract viewers.

Like amazon abyss or whatever, they waste like an our of your life and they don't end up finding much. It's like they are just pandering to little children.

I remember boyt madsen featured that 6 foot stingray that we saw pictures of, he even showed the baby before they released it and explained everything in 2 minutes.

I remember that.. saw fish that I can go to the lfs and buy and they were like "wow!!!" lol.. but also showed some fish like the scavangers that I hadn't seen before that..

You also have to remember that the people producing and scientists in general might not have a specialty in fresh water fish. So they might not eat sleep and breath this stuff like we do. :)
