When you look at fish on the internet some of the same species look pretty different from each other based on where they're from. What I'm getting at is that we should post pictures of our fish with our locations (mainly where the fish came from) and have others do the same so we can compare the fish.

Not sure if due to hybridization or water conditions but various ponds around me show big differences in coloration of what appear to be the same species

Age, sex, mood, diet, environment (weedy, rocky and sandy) and water clarity will make an impact on the coloration of an individual.

Hopefully the video works. Here are my two bowfin. The brownish one was purchased from an online vendor in FL at 3". The greenish/yellowish one was wild caught in N. central IL.

Aside from coloration differences, the IL bowfin has a longer, snake-like head and larger paddle-like tail. The FL bowfin has a more blunt head and a more narrow tail.

Pardon the dirty tank..my filters had been off due to a power outage right before I took the video.
