Yep, I've even kept more temperature sensitive species like smallmouth bass with tropical fish without any problems.

that green sunfish has some super weird colouring to him.

Dark colors=stress. Some may disagree but I wouldn't say that green looks very healthy. It doesn't necessarily look bad either, but a constant 80* will take its toll on sunfish. I think this pic proves just that. BTW, I have a green that is maybe 2 years old, and its approaching 6".

The colouration on that green looks pretty bad, mine never looked like that when kept in tropical conditions. Mine had the standard green sunfish colours, lived for years until I introduced a female salvini to the tank and the male went on a killing spree overnight. It got to about 7" in the 3 years I had it (got it at under an inch with some feeder goldfish).

Disagree, Dark color show dominance in a tank, Alpha Fish always shows darker or brighter colors. With a wild fish always darker, The fish is very Healthy, the pic proves that as you can see the fish in good shape and living for almost 3 years in the tank, This could always be a hybrid also, who knows. Some fish are darker colored also and some get more green, Here I have never seen anything other than this in any pond lake or anywhere. I still think he is small and working into any color he might have.

I don't disagree with you. That fish is not healthy. Look where the head/gills meet the body and the head/body proportion. This in combination with a sunken belly, and funky colors (it is not a hybrid, btw) shows that this fish is in poor condition.
Compare this fish to a healthy tank-raised green - I would not be bragging about this fish or how it is in 80 *F water year round.

Well sure some dominant fish darken, but this green sunfish has alot of pigmentation that is completely missing, the patterns of fish darken but not disapeer completely. even his black ear pigment is gone.
Im not sure if the temperature would have caused that but possibly having the mix of the alkalinity and temperature over a long time period of time could very well be the reason he is black.
