I was told that it is illegal to sell native fish, does this mean native to your area, state or country or what does this mean exactly?Ive seen people here say that they bought native fish at a fs,so whats the deal,am I being feed a line.

native fish means non invasive shecies from the usa

the fish for sale are from a hatchery, collected with a liscense, or illegaly sold

collect your own but check your local laws as far as collecting gamefish

In MN shops need a special license to sell native game fishes and which most by pass it because there's not enough interest. There are about 4 or so shops in the Twin Cities area that do carry Game Fish, I guess it's a Minnesota 10,000 lake/fisherman thing

Fish considered game fish are illegal. The only legal species are ones that are considered baitfish such as golden shiners, creek chubs, fatheads etc. To collect and keep you need a collector's permit in most places. You can legally buy them from hatcherys, normally for pond stocking or you can buy them from a LFS that has the right permits. Some native fish are commonly sold. The popular rosy red is actually the fathead minnow. Sometimes you can find killifish like the American flagfish or livebearers like the sailfin molly.

It varies from state to state but for the most part a collecter's permit is required to take even nongame fish for commercial purposes, Private non-commercial usage often just requires a fishing permit and sometimes not even that.

"Find a kid under 16 to help you out here. Per page 18 of the regulations"

"- Anglers 16 or under may transport legally caught largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass, black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, pumkinseed, green sunfish, orange spotted sunfish, and black, yellow, and brown bullhead. No more than four of each species may be transported at any one time, and any individual fish can be no longer than 10 inches. At no time may water from infested waters be transported. "

Man I need a round of applause for this find because it took me over 1 hr just to find this post. I saw this couple months ago and just want to share this with you so we can stop the debate..........well in MN atleast.....

In Fl, you must have a valid fishing license, you must get the fish via a legal method (no monkey shocking), and whatever you keep in a tank is counted against any daily take/posession limits.
