is it a good idea lets say if i went fishing and caught a pickeral or a bass to put that fish in my tank? or how about any of the other native connecticut species?

it varies from state to state but it might be less than legal to catch and keep local species without permits.

^^This and check your local laws.

You can keep them in tanks and I believe it is legal in CT but you should double check just in case. They are not all that difficult to keep, but tend to require larger tanks depending on what you want. There are some warm water fish that stay small such as madtoms, pygmy sunfish band, blue spot or black banded sunfish, or top minnow. That being said none of those could be caught in CT. Most anything that you'll catch there will be to large for small aquariums. For some kinds of sunfish you are looking at 75-100 minimum, for a pickerel or bass your more looking at 300-400g minimum. You could probably do perch in a 75. I would plan out the logistics of holding such a large fish before doing this plus double check the legality. Depending on what your going for many can be trained on pellets and are fairly easy to keep. Most have amazing personalities. Feel free to join in the chats on the Cold water and Native forum its a great place for info.
