I just set this tank up last night with a sand and gravel, driftwood to come soon. Right now it has most of my natives, (minus my bass), with pumpkinseeds, bluegill, green sunfish, and 2 yellow bullheads. More varieties to come as soon as I get rid of some of these sunfish, I have waaaaays to many. Anybody want some let me know.

The tank looks great man, how's the interaction with all those fish? Do they scrap a lot?

lookin good

Thanks. No, this combination of fish seems to be ok. I had all of them in with the gar and they kinda stressed the gar out. All of them are types of sunfish so they seem to get along alright.

im only asking out of curiosity and not in any way criticizing..... what made you want to have both sand and gravel?

I hadn't seen it done yet. I liked the look of mixed media, kinda reminds me of how the edge of a lake, river, stream would look at a side section. That is what really want is a cross section view of freshwater near here. If I don't end up moving to Florida like I plan on real soon, then we will be building a 600+ gallon but I'm pretty set on moving. The other part of it was practical. I hadn't used sand yet and I wanted to, but I didn't want to wait on it to settle out. The gravel kinda worked to disperse the water without disturbing the sand. I filled it VERY slowly with the hose on the gravel side until it was above the sand, then I turned it up some. I really like the look though. I'll be happier when I find the right piece of wood for the tank. Tell me, honestly, what do you think of the mixed media?

P.S. My only afterthought is that I wish I wouldn't have put quite so much sand under the gravel.

i would make it a more gradual transition from sand to gravel if you're going for natural. i like the idea though and think its cool you did it to look natural

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was hoping the rock outcrop would help me out with that. Its a start. Wait for a few days and I will post more pics that show the custom logo that I am going to paint on the back. It will be all black, with a white logo in the center.
