few years back I had a native tank. i had a darter 4 crayfish and some minnows. it worked out well. i went out to a stream in the woods and brought 10 gallons of water
home to my tank + some rocks. it was fun but as i said 2 of my crays hoped out and 2 got crushed. try it.

local natives can be interesting and at least they are cheap

It's incredible the colors some of thase darters get. They are also very interesting to watch and not to dificult to breed in captivity. All in all a great fish for a small tank.

Darters are among my favorites. They like cool water and are very colorful, and very unique in their behavior. True bottom dwellers, they have no swim bladder.
