I am under the impression that in New York, it is illegal to buy/trade native game fish when they are out of season. Is this true? I have tried looking on the DEP's website but have not gotten any useful information about it.

I remember reading it somewhere but cant remember where.

Anyone know what restrictions or regulations are out there?

Anywhere I can easily search for more info?

As long as you're buying from a licensed dealer the purchase of native species is legal. It is illegal to sell natives without the proper paperwork. Your best source for information would be the NY fishing regulations
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7917.html
If you have specific questions contacting a DEC agent would be your best bet.

Selling game fish is usually restricted in some way nearly everywhere. Luckily many of the most desirable native fish are not game fish and even the ones that are are often legal if they are captive bred.

well with VHS, there will be rule changes
