does any one know of any natives in the texas panhandle that i can get and keep in a 40gallon

I will try to look it up but if I remember right you have a couple of very pretty darters, a couple types of pirate perch, and at least one of the larger madtoms in that area, all true natives. You might have to collect them yourself and if you due check for endangered status first. The public library or local college should have field guides available.

Naw man, the Texas cichlid is to large.

A school of some kind of minnow, some madtoms and some darters would look nice. I don't know what species you have down there though. Maybe a sunfish if you have one of the smaller species.

You might check with the Native Fish Association for what is around your area.

Or the Native Fish Conservancy, they may even help you find native fish for the tanks. There are many members who keep and trade them.

Depends on the native. Some species like trout need cold, well aerated moving water. Others such as bluegill and brown bullhead don't really need that sort of thing. When getting a native keep it's range and habitat in mind.

i think a few darters would look nice with rocks and maybe some driftwood, i found a creek near me that was all rocks and the only thing in it was darters and crayfish, there were quite a bit of darters and they were easy to catch
