Where cannot get natives such as bluegill and bass in San Diego. I'm helping my friend dig a pond and he wants to stock it with bass and some panfish. Any San Diego people out there that can help?

Do a search for aquaculture places in your state. There are also some online stores where you can buy natives....sachs aquaculture, zimmermans fish, and jonahs are the places I know of.

Cant legally import native fish into cali

All game fish in CA must be caught using conventional fishing equipment (dipnets, casting nets, seines, etc are not allowed in many waterways in SoCal). All game fish caught must be of legal size, within catch-limits for the waterway you're fishing, and retained dead. Keeping your catch alive for aquaria is not legal in CA. You'd need a collection permit to keep and transport your catch alive and a license to maintain your catch in aquaria.

So basically almost everyone keeping natives in California is breaking the law?

I never said that. Most wild-caught CA natives are being kept illegally. Anything bought from a hatchery or lfs is to be considered legally obtained. Retaining the purchase-order form or descriptive receipt is strongly recommended.

You think my LFS would order some for me from a local hatchery because the closest one is a pretty far drive

You won't know until you ask them.
