Hey this is my first postand I am from India.
Intro:-
My grandpa's brother has an abandoned well which was used for agriculture but now it is left to rot and has collected a lot of duckweed. The well is 8m long x 5m wide x 10m deep(first 6m remains empty i.e. water is below 20 ft of ground level).
Give or take it at least contains 40,000 gallons of water at any given time. It stands to test of time it is an ancient granite lined well it is now primarily rain-fed but the there is a huge lake nearby(60 acres and almost 1 ton of fish is caught there WEEKLY!) hence there is a good supply of underground water.
The well is surrounded by some trees so a lot of indirect and little direct sunlight will be received by the well.
I had seen some crabs and maybe a turtle living in it with a small snake and frogs.

My Goal:-
I want to convert this well into a natural self sustained pond with some monster fish very economically over span of TWO YEARS.
Only food it can get weekly is some fish scraps.

My Problems :-
Currently I am preparing for JEE and it is one of the toughest undergraduate exams in the world. I cannot dedicate any time specially for this project except a couple of hours a month. This well is over 100km from me and I can make sure that a friend of mine would throw in some not real food but scarps of fish.

The Idea:-
I think I first better start with some shrimp and let then take over the well for first three or more months. Then add some crayfish and let them balance. Then get some beautiful bass(peacock) and grow them out till they are 9" or more then release them in it and then maybe try to fish for them a year later.

I would like you guys to suggest some ideas to make it possible. But again as cheap as possible.

Creating a natural pond with big fish is hard but making it self sustaining is even harder. You would have to research what the fish you want in your pond eat in the wild. If I were you I would do native fish as it would be a lot easier. I would start with minnows and crayfish as well as a medium sized fish that would eat the minnows but also breed quickly. This would be the main food source. You would also need a lot of plants to filter the water and imo you would need some sort of flow in there. It could be really cool but would need a lot of thinking and a bit of luck as well

Wow, thus sounds like an amazing project. Could you get any pictures of the well by any chance?
