I'm looking for a relatively "cheap" type of substrate for my 220 gallon aquarium. It currently has Pool Filter Sand(PFS), but in all seriousness, PFS is nice, but it's not all that natural looking. What is the most natural-looking substrate out there. If you don't mind, please include, the name; where you got it, or where you can get it, and a picture of it in your tank if you own it. Keep in mind the tank houses large cichlids from Central, and South America.

ya it looks like mud which i liked. i think mix in some various size gravel and stone and it would be as close as possible. what i really liked was it obviously isnt too light or those umbees would have made a mess from it

Ya, I hate sand that unsettles so easily.

He said in his thread its quickrete sand. I use quickrete or any play sand and just rinse the hell out of it. I like the darker sands as opposed to PFS, as the dark substrate tends not to wash the color out of my fish.

right now im using quickrete sand for my tank been using it for 2 years. its looks a lil greyish but under lighting is looks like a natural white. which looks more natural and better then pool filter sand imo. im gonna switch to the brown color one once i sell my discus and redue the whole tank.

Mine is a nice dark beige/light brown. Looks like sand you'd see in a river or lake.
