There has been very little mention recently of the biggest and baddest of the South American knifefish...the Electric eel, Electrophorus (Gymnotus) electricus.

So how many EE keepers do we have here? I have a 20" currently, eating floating pellets too! Lost my pair of 3' eels a couple years ago due to a stupid error on my part (forgot to turn on heaters in Feb after water change, then vacation)..

lol, if I had the money, and a large enough tank, you bet I would have one. What size tank is yours in?

45 at the moment. Adults don't usually get bigger than 3-4 feet in aquaria, so a 2'x6' is adequate...they're pretty sluggish when not being fed.

I don't own an electric eel, but I've been wondering:
What happens if you put an electric catfish and an electric eel together? Do they coexist or does the catfish get fried?

That's a pretty massive bioload for that size of tank.

It's a three foot eel, not a three foot cichlid. Not any worse than having three or four large cichlids with the same body girth...
