Landon Evans, a 15-year-old from Benson, pulled a new record-setting blue catfish out of Lake Gaston on June 11 — the enormous fish weighed 117 pounds, 8 ounces.

The hefty catfish was 55 inches long and measured 40.5 inches in girth.

This is the third time in six months Lake Gaston has set the record for blue catfish, cacording to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. In order to qualify for a state record, the fish must be caught by rod and reel or cane pole, must be weighed on a certified scale and must be identified by a commission biologist. The angler must have at least one witness and submit an application.

The previous record catfish weighed 105 pounds.

No clue but it was power fed, it looks. IDK.

Not saying this definitely occurred in this case at all but this may be in the grey area between scoring honest records and cheating. For instance, the record carp caught in UK and France are morbidly obese and are all from smallish lakes.

The fish are over fed more and more severely over time and are being caught over time once and again to be weighted for a possible new weight fishing record. Doesn't sound 100% fair to me.
