I am really trying to keep enthusiastic after a really rough week and just want to imagine some possible setups.

here is the story.. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2271750#post2271750

Basically it looks like everything is going to die... the only really healthy looking fish is my bristlenose pleco so he may end up making it.

Anyways here is my question. Given a 55 gallon tank with only a bristlenose pleco in it what would you stock it with if you do not want to do a community tank.

Or would you take this chance and upgrade to something much larger.. 125-180. If so what would you you stock it with over the 55 gallon.

I know this is very vague but just want to get a general direction on where to start brainstorming.

welcome to the forum,
no community fish huh?then go with some raphael cat fishes, get the big ones. But most people think they're boring though that I like their fat bellies.

Well no exactly no community fish but trying to possibly avoid a community setup. Instead maybe just a few larger/aggressive fish.

terrors or dempseys you can keep a pair with a nice 4 line cat and your bristlenose. fun little aggresive fish and they don't get oscar size. Meekies are fun too!!!
My lfs has a mating pair of dempseys for $100 that are beautiful that is I had a 55 I'd put them in.

oh wait I forgot, i keep a mated pair of g severums (~8" - 10" about three years old) in a 55 with a sm geophagus, common pleco and a striped rafael.

A few salvinis. Miniature guapotes with awesome colours that fit nicely into 55 gallons and get along with plants.
