its all nicely set out with rocks and wood with its only inhabitant being my 1.5"-2" Texas cichlid, and i know these guys are messy so i am thinking of adding a clean up fish(s) while he is young so he will learn to live with them. maybe some dithers too?
ive had some ideas of
bristle nose plecs - they dont get too big or would that be a problem?
pictus cats
rafayel cat
synadontis sp.

any ideas =)

I don't think the Texas are messy at all, the one I had wasn't. They're so flippin' mean though that any other fish you put in there stands a chance of being picked to death, I wouldn't risk it. The Texas is going to need the whole 55 gal when he's grown anyway. The one I had picked food off the bottom all the time just like my Eartheater does.

i know they can be mean but i was hoping to avoid that with the introducing them as young fish? when i did it with my green terror last time i worked fine

a gold fish bigger then the tex.

Bad idea, if he's being serious. Gold fish are dirty and carry diseases. It will also get picked on a lot by the Texas. Doesn't matter if you put a fish in with the Texas while it's a juvenile, it will still stand a very good chance of being the bully in the tank because of space.

okay then i will maybe think twice about the cleaner fish...
although i am capable of upgrading the tank size eventualy
also a goldfish??? was that meant to be a joke =P

Andonis Pleco. Most fish won't mess with them since they're covered in spikes

If you really want a clean up fish you have try it its just something that can go wrong or good your texas may mess with it or not so I would just try it

Senagal bichirs swim all over the tank seemingly like they're in a constant search for food. My senegals clean every square inch of the tank for leftover food. Bristlenose plecos do a good job of keeping algae off the glass and stuff. My cichlids don't mess with either of them.
