I need to build a divider for my plywood tank. I sealed it using liquid rubber, so I can't have anything abrasive that I would wedge in there that could scratch off the rubber and expose the plywood. I also can't use the magnet holders to keep them up like I do in my other one. I have previously used pipe insulation around light diffuser but a) it floats so it is easier to knock down and b) the rays like to chew on it. Anyone have any ideas for me? Let's see them, more than one way to skin a cat, hoping someone has something that will only take me 1 home depot trip and an hour of work to get in there nicely, and the cheaper it is the more beers I can buy.

Thanks.

My first thought was to build a frame out of PVC pipe that would hold some sort of screen or acrylic sheet but then I wondered how to hold it in place. Is this something permanent or temporary? If just temporary, you could try those tension rods that hold up a curtain (larger one hold up a shower curtain). they are adjustable and have rubber padded ends. I am envisioning one near the top and another near the bottom in which you could cable tie your frame to. These are metal so not a good long term solution but cheap and quick.

I've seen a divider done with light diffuser but with pvc around the edges instead. Cut a strip out of the pvc a bit wider than the diffuser, slip it on, zip tie it in place.

That said getting it to stay put in the tank will be tougher. I would say suction cups but I dont think that'll stick to the rubber?

I like your idea with possibly filling up the bottom section of the pvc frame with something very heavy like concrete or similar to hold it in place. Not sure how sturdy the top half of the frame would be with a fish trying to push through it tho.

Or actually maybe just filling up the entire pvc frame with some stones / concrete or what not.

Great ideas everyone, thank you, and keep them coming. The PVC frame think is questionable because they float, so I would really need something to keep it sturdy in place. These are very heavy fish we are talking about, 18-24" rays that love riding the divider and when it comes close to birthing time the male and female are battling through it to get to each other. Absolutely this is temporary. I like the idea of something heavy with an acrylic sheet drilled with holes or something similar. So far the idea that intrigues me the most is the bathroom curtain holder, the one you twist with the rubber pads. I could even set this up above water against the brace to make it easy, would just need some sort of stand at the bottom.

Once again thanks guys and let's keep brainstorming.

I like the idea of putting something in between the nylon bolts and the LR, but I can see a bit of a problem with the acrylic either peeling some LR off after or cutting into it or something, maybe we can think of something else. I was already thinking lexan if it won't be super expensive. I'm game though, gotta figure this out relatively soon though because I am trying to pull the trigger on a male any day possible.
