My large flowerhorn is becoming listless and now starting to refuse food. Hes large about 11" tl. Always been a great eater but now not so much. I fed him feeders a few months ago which I know probably caused this. His waste almost always looks normal but every few days I'll see some stringy clear or white feces. I already treated for parasites so im thinking its bacterial.

so the real question is: what is the best cost effective medication to treat an internal bacterial infection that does not have to be consumed. I came up with Gentamycin Sulfate but am not ready to spend $50 on it yet.

It sounds like an internal parasite problem. If it was an infection the fish would look swollen.

i've had good luck with jungle brand parasite clear, which has metronidazole and praziquantel in it

Ive already used that product for two treatments about a month ago. there is a slight swelling to the stomach area but its not very pronounced.

just an update the flowerhorn is 100 percent better. Eating everything in site.

I treated with pimafix and parasite clear.

Glad to hear it. Internal infections are very difficult to treat.
