I'm thinking this one is a L201, but not sure. Out of the two I need identified this one looks most like a L201.

Yep, with odontodes that large it is a male. It's like an elk with antlers is a male, however an elk without antlers can still be a male.
 
How large is the fish? I have had males and females have quite a lot of adontode growth, and don't find it the best indicator of sex until it is at least adult size. I have had a few fish given to me as males, and turned out as females. Fortunately i never consider that a bad thing. Never kept this Hypancistrus sp. though.
