My convicts have laid eggs about 3 days ago. the eggs are inside a pvc pipe can i move these eggs to a smaller tank? or do i wait until they are fry and try to net catch them, also does the mother need to be with the fry? these are simple questions im thinking, but its my first time with eggs.

thanks,

i let the eggs hatch, let the parents take care of them for the first week then use the syphon tube (just the tube, not the large part) and suck all the fry up. then put em in a smaller tank. they dont need the mom after that.

Hey Ron,

With Convicts, it can go either way. The Mom will either protect them...or eat the fry in an attempt to protect them from you. The good news is, now that they're breeding, they're going to do it often. You could try the "let nature take it's course" approach and see how things turn out. If it doesn't work out so well, trust me, you will be able to try a different approach soon :)

I'm thinking about trying to breed convicts too. Is a 20g big enough to do this if i take the eggs out after they are laid? Also how big are the adults before they breed? Thanks!

Thanks guys, I moved them and they seem to be doing well, and im guessing the male and female will spawn again soon. ill keep you guys posted on what happens,

I wait untill the fry hatch.........I then siphon them out using an air filter flex tube......I would say a 20g long is good wnough to raise a spawn of COnvicts to saleable size, 1-1/2 month old fry........55g tank is the best for fry........Remember to use a sponge filter in the first month, month and a half......Sponge filters create good enough oxygen/water circulation and do not suck up the fry.......ALso, do 50% water changes ever other day for the first two weeks........

Let them hatch then leave them in till they lay eggs again because if they stay in that same tank the mom will see them as a threat to her new eggs and kill them

okay, will try to find a sponge filter. this will be much better for them,
