Hi Alan,

Seen this many times, don't worry she isn't developing curl or anything as sinister as that. Its usually nothing more than a bit of constipation, does she make erratic forward or even back and forth as if to scratch her belly on the bottom? If you haven't already done it raise the temp a little, often helps to clear them out.

Any new substrate can temporarily irritate the pelvic fins (feet) and underside of a ray, remove all the sand for now till the red subsides, so long as the water parameters are checking out ok it will be fine.

Do "not" add chemicals!!

hi richard, thanks for the reply !! No erratic forward or even back and forth as if to scratch her belly on the bottom.I have not seen any waste from her yet? the tank she is in is a holding tank when i moved her i filled the new tank with the water out of my old tank and using the filters off the big tank to, so apart from the tank being smaller everything is the same.

Is it the same sand? It looks sharp? I would vacuum all the sand out with a hose. And start doing daily 20-30 % water changes. if she's eating feed her a bunch and see if she will poop. might need to hang out for 20 minutes after you feed.

I would check the parameters to be sure, especially ammonia but nitrite and nitrate as well - moving water & filters it's possible to disrupt the cycle slightly and cause problems. At least it would be good to rule that out.

I've had a ray do this before and it was ammonia burn. hopefully its not the same thing (she died when the burn got worse and my test waste working so make sure you have different tests for ammonia)

she will only take prawns ,eating 2-3 large prawns per 24hrs .all water parameters are spot on all 0.00 - 0.01 for nitrite , nitrate and ammonia PH is 6.5-7. I'VE turned the temp upto 80f from 76f and the reddish colour as gone over night from the feet (fins) but still not seen any waste from her yet ?

Does she do this all of the time?
