Need a little insight.

Ok, so since my first post here I have replaced the water I had the eels in with clean clear pond water from my dads fish pond outside. Their eyes are clearing up, so I am happy about that. My latest concern though is that I bought two new eels and on one I have noticed that he has a few tiny scrapes on his body, nothing to worry about in itself. The thing is on all of these insignificant scrapes I noticed a white thread like thing about two to three millimeters protruding from them. Does anyone have an idea what it can be and if so, how do I treat it?

I will try to get a photo of it.

I hate those worms. You can treat for them, but if it's only one it might be worth pulling out. I've had to do this on some catfish and knifefish in the past.
