I called around today trying to round up some nice cichla. I have 10 cichla ocellaris already but you cichla guys know that you can never get enough cichla.

Well today I call a place about 3 hours from me and he says he has a 12 incher in the store. So I make the 3 hour drive to his store and I see what might possibly be a peacock bass, but man does it ever look horrible. Bad spots all over it, LOTS of scales missing. Im not even positively sure its a peacock bass from as bad as it looks. I felt SOO sorry for him. He was in what looked to be a 15 or 20 gallon tank.

I asked the guy what he was feeding him. I asked if he ate feeders and he said he gets pellets and he either eats that or nothing at all. And it looks like he had been eating nothing at all.. :(

So I got him out of there, I couldnt stand it. So here goes, Im going to post some pics of this guy, first off, you guys tell me if you think he is even a peacock bass. He is soo messed up its even hard for me to tell. And two what should I medicate him with. One eye is really cloudy and he has bad spots all over him. Aquarium Salt? Melafix? Just some general ideas. I feel so bad for him...

Here are the pics:

Right now he is in a 75 gallon hospital tank along with a Flowerhorn I saved from the same guy as well. The flowerhorn was beat all to crap and I hated seeing such a nice fish like that. Im going to medicate them together and see what happens...:(

Doesn't look like 12" either .

That fish is a foot long???!???

looks african

It's a Petenia splendida

There are 2 color forms of Petenia, the one you baught has the normal color. The fry of both species look alike but with his 12" he's to large to devellop the orange color, they normaly do at about 3-4 inches
