I have an old 55 gallon at home that I never use anymore since I got a bigger tank for my fish so I wanted to get one monster to put in here by himself. I was thinking about possibly getting a longfin oscar, red devil, ghost knife or a small eel. Any ideas would be great i want to use a natural look and use my imagination on this one.

most would agree that 75 is a minimum for a single oscar at full size, i think the red devil is your best choice out of what you've listed. you could get a peacock eel as they dont get massive but they're kinda boring IMO don't see em much

red devil is a good lone fish, but i was told a 55 might be cutting it close for these.. maybe a green terror? they can be full of attitude and beautiful

you would still be pushing the limit on the tank with the Rd.

But if you filter it well and with weekly w/c s...a male RD would be awesome

This wouldnt need to be the fishes final home I have a 125 gallon available at my home if I need it but I would prefer to have this tank with a sump at my college apartment for a year.

Agree with above, go with smaller cichlids, there's a plethora of species that could go in there rather than shoehorn a RD or oscar into there. Look into smaller acaras, Tanganyikans as well

I've never had a salvini but I'm not against the idea im just not interested with smaller fish I would rather have a breeding pair of fish or a larger fish that gives off the personality of having a dog in the aquarium lol
