My heater malfunctioned this weekend so I need to buy a new one. Thinking about one of the titanium or stainless type heaters with the external controller. Anyone ever had issues using this type in a ray setup (in terms of affecting the rays sensory system) ? The heater is located in the sump so no issues with a heater guard.
Thanks.

if you hid your heater in the sump i would buy a temperture controller that's rated for 1000W then like you said choose your type heater you like but buy 2 heaters that's each 300W.. use the controller turn on the heater simultaneously so one goes you still have a spare for backup..i have this setup but i have it in my tank with plastic PVC with holes to protect my rays being burnt..or get those external heaters.. works just as good .. GL with your setup..

I prefer 2 controllers, this way if one were to stick on it would have a lesser effect.

I used one of the new Fluval digitals as an additional heater and it seems very good.
