akron, ohio
mostly I need confirmation
these guys were sold as "whiptail cats"
the lfs's fish guy checked his guide and it said they were a loracia sp i forget exactly which one.
listed as getting ~4.5" and vegetarian
the smaller one (the one in the pic) is about 2.5-3" the larger one is about an inch longer and is close to or a little larger than the stated max.
He also has bristles on his front fins and face and the smaller one doesn't other than that they look the same.
Do the bristles mean the larger one is male?

as always your help is appreciated?

It is a whiptail catfish, whiptail, whiptail pleco, or loricaria. Without better pics, I cannot identify which species it is specifically, but it is a form of Loricaria. Loricaria/Rineloricaria both are genus in the Loricariidae family.

Underside shot of the mouth would be good, as will a side view preferably with the dorsal up.

okay I got a decent side view and head view of the one I think is male.
How can i get an underside view if neither cling to the sides of their tank?
