Hello everyone,

So I have a quick question. I have hooked up a Fluval FX5 on a 150 gallon, I just put in a power head at the bottom. Will this equipment be enough to Aerate the water enough? I only ask this because I have some small minow guys in it as well as some silver dollars and they are all attached to the top of the tank as if they are gasping for air...

Your help would be appreciated greatly..

Thanks

What i did in my 180g was run the return pipe all the way to the bottom of the tank. The FX5 has twin nozzles so you can push the water in different directions and it should be enough to push the debris at the bottom of the tank to the other side where the intake pipe is. Seems to be working for me, my water is crystal clear after putting in the FX5 for 4-5 days.

Maybe you can try this and get rid of your powerhead. BTW how many L/H is your powerhead doing?

Do you have any air stones in your tank?

no air stones at the moment. My power head is pushing 300 I think. I put some battery powered bubbler in a half an hour ago and an almost immediate change in the fish happened. I need to figure it out

I run airstones in all my tanks for that reason. Once fish get used to oxygen rich water they almost can't live without it.

My fish did this until I had rippling water at the top. Different filter though, but they weren't very happy until the water was really moving above them.

I just tilt my spraybar tords the surface and that ripple on the water surface is enough oxygen. If your tank isnt fully cycled then you may need more O2

Yup even with 1000 GPH running on a 90 it still has a 3" disk that is blasting bubbles (Rena has done the trick its dead silent) . All six of my tanks have air running on them mostly Rena pumps they are adjustable and handy

Rena you say? What do you have? I still run the whisper ones. They whipser sure, but it's a really loud whisper lol.

I have my fluval 404 return slightly above the water....this creates alot of aeration.
