we had a power surge/ outage and it damaged my filter need to know if sponge filter will keep fish going til tomorrow???????

As long as the sponge filter is well seasoned.. (at least a week old) then yes. This is one of the main reasons that I, and others, use them.

What size sponge? Seeded or new? What size tank? Stocking level?
More info. needed please.

60 gal tank .... 1 oscar, 1 jag, 1 firemouth... med size filter it been going for about 4 days

Depending on the size of those fish, at least daily water changes 'til the power comes back on, or go buy a small generator to run the tank. Four days is not enough.
No feeding, they'll be fine for awhile.

the power is back on... it just when it came back on my canister filter got damaged... the magnet on the propeller shaft just cracked in 2 places causing separation... my sponge filter is running with my normal air pump just want to know will that be enought til the next day so i can locate a replacement part.

Just do a quick water change, don't feed, and get it fixed asap.
How long was the power off?

3 - 4 minutes tops
Jeez, that's all ? I was thinking hours or something. Unless they are big fish, they should be fine 'til tomorrow. Check on them at bedtime, and again first thing in the morning. As long as nobody is gasping, and you get the filter fixed tomorrow, you should be good.
Just remember the canister needs a good cleaning after that long with no circulation. Putting the canister bio in the tank will help the fish and the bio 'til the filter is back up and running.

Don't worry man as long as the surface is agitated the fish will be fine for days. The only real short term danger of losing your filter is oxygen depletion...with a sponge filter running thats not a problem.
