I have the twin Bichirs and ropefish together in a 30 gal tank.. i am not totally familiar with Bichir personality but these two do not act like the last bichir i had that died from hitting into a sharp object.. these seem lathargic and do not eat with a passion like my other guy did.. i have checked and double checked water.. did water changes, and every thing tests out fine including temperture.. could it be a possibility that the bichirs are intimidated by the rope fish..he is about 8 inches long..and the bichirs are maybe 3 inches... before i move him out i thought i would see what everyone thinks..thanks

albino senegals..they are in the tank about two weeks..I just purchased them..thanks

thtey will settle in, give them time.

I have never personaly kept a rope fish before, so i am not familiar with their attitudes or temperment, but 3" and 8", that is quite a difference in size between the albino pair and the rope fish?... Like messinger already said, just give them some time to fully adap and settle in. I find that to be normal behavior for any poly when first introduced to the tank.

Be sure to have all openings, gaps, spaces covered/weighed on the top of the tank. If there were a time when they may possibly jump out... this would most likely be the time. :)

Thank you.. i will give more time for them to all get use to everything, i quess i was just spoiled by my first guy.. he adapted to everything but he was a little older then these guys. So at least i know i can continue to keep the rope fish and bichirs together..thanks

Thats what i wanted to hear..thanks

I've kept young senegals and ropes together before and didn't have a problem with them as far as aggression is concerned. My ropes were about 10'' and the senegals were about the same as the size you have now. The only problem I had was making sure the ropes got food - the senegals took it too quickly. As stated above, let them settle in and make sure they have places to hide to feel more comfortable. Don't worry about the 3''/8'' combo :) Good luck!

thank you very much for your response.. it seems these bichirs are somewhat laid back compared to my other guy so i think the rope is doing okay as far as eating..although we do not witness it .he has gained weight in girth and is healthy but yes your so right to always observe that everyone is eating.. I am happy to hear they can remain together. thanks again.

No problem. There is one other thing I'd like to tell you about care of ropes. I see a lot of people all the time telling owners to make sure they cover all the holes in the tops of the tanks - one thing you HAVE to remember if you have a hang over the back type of filter is that they WILL go to the top where the water falls from the filter and swim up into it, over the filter cartridge, knock off the top of the filter and jump out from there. Be sure your tank isn't full enough to allow this to happen. You might not expect it - I'd had my ropes for months before they pulled this little trick - both of them escaped the same way two times in one day.
