Hello,

Ok here goes I have a 380 that i filled with Mexican beach pebbles needless to say that wasn't cheap and after reading some of you guys posts and seeing pics I would now like to switch to PFS. I wish I could do TBMS but that is a little pricey so PFS it is :). The reason for the switch is cleaning its a pain and sand would be alot easier. IDK what i should do with the MBP but I have 2 55g bare bottom that i could fill with some of the MBP's but that still leaves the cleaning part so.... Any advice is welcomed and appreciated

Thanks to all

I think cleaning sand is harder... plus you have to actually get down in the sand and move it around often to avoid deadly gas pockets. You could take a 3 week vacation and come back to dead fish. The MBP are very good looking, and will hide the look of any fishypoo that gets down in it... where sand will just make the poo stand out. I know your second guessing yourself... stop it. You have the right stuff right now. Sand is pretty, but so are the pebbles.

I had pebbles in my tank for a while and then switch them all to sand. Since then I don't even consider anything but sand. At first I was concerned with poo sitting on the sand and looking bad, but I put powerheads in the tanks near the bottom and they blow the poo off the sand and into the water column until the filter picks it up. Now I don't have to vac at all. If you keep the sand close to 1" deep you wont have the hydorgen sulfide build up to worry about. Another alternative is MTS to stir the sand but that doesn't work if you have big fish that will eat them like oscars. If you have cichilds or other diggers they will move the sand to their liking, which gives a great natural look to the tank. You can also remove half of the pebbles and then put the sand in and get a natural textured look. You'd want to vac the gravel real good first and use more sand then pebbles.

If you do it post before and after pic's.
